Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.

A very popular white Fir due to its beautiful form and long blue needles which make a striking feature in any garden. Abies concolor 'Compacta' is a slow-growing dwarf evergreen conifer which grows into an irregular spreading shape, with slender powdery blue-grey needles. One of the best blue conifers for the small garden. Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery.
