Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.

Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, Abies homolepis 'F.R. Newman' is an attractive, compact, low-spreading fir with glossy green needles. This is a miniature version of the original. These small conifers are grafted onto stems to enhance the aesthetics of their shape and play on the plants natural features.
