Native to Japan where they are revered as the national tree. Cryptomeria Japonica are large evergreen trees with attractive red-brown bark and dense foliage consisting of short awl-shaped leaves arranged spirally around the branchlets; cones are spherical.
Details
Cryptomeria japonica 'Cristata' grows into a mid-sized conical tree. Its best attribute by far is its unusual looking foliage which has a highly decorative appearance. This tree is suitable for most gardens and can be pruned to keep the size down or left to grow into a full size tree. Originated from Yokohama before 1900. Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery.
