Genus Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.
Details Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, Abies koreana 'Kohouts Icebreaker' is a dwarf cultivar of Korean fir. Its parent plant is 'Horstmann's Silberlocke', 'Kohouts Icebreaker' has the same distinctive strongly-curled needles with mesmerising silvery undersides. Branches are short, stubby and radial. Young plants will be globose and then will develop a leader shoot, eventually becoming a small squat tree.
