Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.

Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, 'Golden Spreader' is a slow-growing evergreen conifer making a small shrub of spreading, bushy growth, wider than tall. The needles turn from green to a beautiful bright golden-yellow in the winter bringing colour to a garden.
Soil Type: Acid, alkaline, heavy clay, light sandy, normal.
Aspect: Partial shade, sun.
Foliage Type: Evergreen.
Foliage Colour: Green, yellow needles.
Pot Size: 3 litre and 10 litre.
Ultimate Height: 0.5 - 1m.
Ultimate Spread: 1 - 1.5m.
Growth Rate: 20 - 50 years.
Special Attributes: A mounding, spreading plant when young, Abies Nordmanniana ‘Golden Spreader’ will develop a pyramidal form with age. This ornamental tree has also won an RHS Garden Merit Award.
