Betula can be deciduous trees or shrubs, usually colouring well in autumn and often with striking white, pink, or peeling brown bark; separate male and female catkins open before or with the leaves in spring.
Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, this sturdy Carpinus ‘Monument’ is a slower growing variety that forms the conical shape with no pruning needed. The foliage is particularly dense and as with all Carpinus turns a strong yellow colour in the autumn. The leaves then turn russet in colour and are held on the tree through the winter months. Fantastic long catkins are borne in the spring too. The best foliage colour is developed in full sun.
