We’re delighted to be hosting a solo exhibition of paintings by Sussex artist David Holden as part of the Art Trail for  Hailsham Festival of Arts & Culture from 14th to 24th September.

David’s great aunt was Edith Holden whose nature notes became an instant bestseller when published posthumously as The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.  David, who lives in Sussex, had a profound spiritual experience in August 1993 after which he began to paint, having not done so before. His unusual story has been featured on TV and in the press and his story has been included in a book of unusual life stories which has been published in the USA.

David’s style of painting perfectly captures the charm of Sussex towns, villages and picturesque landscapes and his reputation has earned him an international following with a number of national solo exhibitions to his name.  Many of his paintings and prints hang in collections in the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and South Africa.

Arundel Castle

Although watercolour is his favourite medium, he has more recently ventured into a ‘looser style’ using pastel and acrylic. He enjoys exploring the effects of light on the landscape and much admires the work of the pre-raphaelite and impressionist schools.

Melody One £220

A selection of David’s original artwork and prints will be displayed in our shop and Olive’s Cafe at Lime Cross Nursery.  All artwork is available to purchase and David is offering specially reduced prices for all work in the exhibition so this is a great opportunity to buy an original piece at a great price!

The Bluebell Line £375
