Abies concolor ‘Wattezii Prostrate’ can be mistaken for ‘Violacea Prostrate’, however it is slower growing at 10 cm growth per year reaching it’s final height of 1.0 metre in around 10 years. This specimen measures approximately 30 cm high and 20 cm wide. Likes to be grown in well drained moist soil either loam, clay or sandy. Position in full sunlight with some shelter from wind.
It was originally cultivated in the UK before 1966. The name ‘Wattezii Prostrate’ of Welsh (1966) was corrected to ‘Wattez Prostrate’ in or before 1987 in order to comply with the requirements of the ICNCP at the time. (RHS Encyclopedia of Conifers, 2012)
