Clematis can be deciduous or evergreen shrubs or herbaceous perennials, mostly climbing by twining leaf-stalks, and often with showy flowers. Some have attractive fluffy seedheads in autumn.
Early Large-flowered clematis have large star-shaped flowers in early summer, often with a second flowering in late summer.
A particularly eye-catching variety, Clematis ‘Girenas' has wide, pale-pink flowers with attractively crimped edges, and a bar of deep pink running through the centre of each sepal. It produces a profusion of flowers through June and July, followed by a second flush in late summer. A compact cultivar, it is perfect for brightening up a wall in light shade, where its colours will be less prone to fading.
