Genus The spruces are evergreen trees with a single trunk and regular annual tiers of horizontal branches forming a narrow to conical crown. They are found across the northern hemisphere, as a major constituent of the boreal forest above and below the Arctic Circle southwards down the main mountain chains of Europe, North America and Asia.
Details Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, Picea orientalis ‘Skylands’ is an excellent choice for adding bright, year-round colour to a large garden. Its fine, spiky needles emerge electric yellow in spring and gradually soften to a rich gold that stands out against the dark green, interior foliage. Trees develop slowly in the early years, but achieve a habit typical of the species in time. Best colour in full sun, although protection may be warranted in scorching summer climates until established.
