Abies concolor 'Compacta'
Compact White Fir
Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.
A very popular white Fir due to its beautiful form and long blue needles which make a striking feature in any garden. Abies concolor 'Compacta' is a slow-growing dwarf evergreen conifer which grows into an irregular spreading shape, with slender powdery blue-grey needles. One of the best blue conifers for the small garden. Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery.
