Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.

Abies grandis 'Van Dedem's Dwarf' is a globose to conical dwarf with stout upright branches displaying intense dark green needles with a light silver-grey reverse. It nearly has a slight upside down look about it and would be perfect for the conifer collector. Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery.
Soil Type: Acid, alkaline, heavy clay, light sandy, normal.
Aspect: Full sun.
Foliage Type: Evergreen.
Foliage Colour: Silver, dark green needles.
Pot Size: 3 litre and 10 litre.
Ultimate Height: 30 - 60cm.
Ultimate Spread: 120 - 150cm.
Growth Rate: 10 - 20 years.
