Chamaecyparis is a genus of evergreen conifers in the cypress family Cupressaceae, native to eastern Asia and to the western and eastern margins of the United States. They grow in cool temperate conifer forests, or in mixed conifer-broadleaf forest, from sea level to montane. The name is derived from the Greek khamai (χαμαί), meaning "on the earth", and kuparissos (κυπάρισσος) for cypress.

Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Pygmaea' is a flat-topped, broadly globose selection of Hinoki cypress with spreading branches, reddish brown stems, and fan-shaped sprays of bronze-green foliage than becomes noticeably darker in winter in colder climates.
