Chamaecyparis is a genus of evergreen conifers in the cypress family Cupressaceae, native to eastern Asia and to the western and eastern margins of the United States. They grow in cool temperate conifer forests, or in mixed conifer-broadleaf forest, from sea level to montane. The name is derived from the Greek khamai (χαμαί), meaning "on the earth", and kuparissos (κυπάρισσος) for cypress.

Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Sungold' is a slow-growing, mound-forming, small conifer with thread-like foliage held on weeping branches emerging golden-yellow before eventually maturing to a lime-green colour. The species Chamaecyparis Pisifera or Sawara Cypress originates from the Japanese islands of Honshu and Kyushu.
