Chamaecyparis is a genus of evergreen conifers in the cypress family Cupressaceae, native to eastern Asia and to the western and eastern margins of the United States. They grow in cool temperate conifer forests, or in mixed conifer-broadleaf forest, from sea level to montane. The name is derived from the Greek khamai (χαμαί), meaning "on the earth", and kuparissos (κυπάρισσος) for cypress.

Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Filifera Nana' has distinctive, long and slender shoots which in time will slowly spread to form a flat-topped green mound. It makes a handsome, low growing specimen for all gardens and could also be planted en-masse to form dense year-round ground cover.
